In the Democrat Presidential Primary in 2016, Sen. Bernie Sanders got 174,054 votes (51%) compared to 139,338 votes (41%) for Hillary Clinton.
In the Super Tuesday vote on May 3, Sanders got 77,302 votes (25%) – a drop of almost 100,000 votes.
Consequently, former Vice President Joe Biden won the Oklahoma Democrat primary with 117,552 votes (39%) on Super Tuesday.
In 2016, President Donald Trump got 130,141 votes (28%) in the primary and lost to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who got 157,941 votes (34%).
This year on Super Tuesday, Trump got 251,499 (93%) of the GOP vote – an increase of 121,348 votes.
This year in Oklahoma, Michael Bloomberg got 42,243 votes (14%); Elizabeth Warren (who is from Oklahoma) bot 40,676 votes (13%); Amy Klobuchar got 6,728 votes (2%); and Pete Buttigieg got 5,113 votes (1.6%). The poor showing in Oklahoma prompted Bloomberg, Warren, Klobuchar and Buttigieg to end their campaigns. Most have them have subsequently endorsed Biden.
Trump is a lock to be renominated.
“The results only increase the likelihood that no candidate will have enough delegates for a first ballot victory at their convention, which only means more chaos,” said Brad Parscale, Trump 2020 campaign manager. “The media is hyperventilating about Joe Biden but everyone should remember that he is just as terrible a candidate right now as he was a few days ago. At the same time, establishment Democrats have ganged up to try to deny Bernie Sanders the nomination, which is causing even more mayhem. Even if Bernie is not on November’s ballot, his big government socialist ideas will be because they have become mainstream in today’s Democrat Party. President Trump will wipe the floor with whatever Democrat is unlucky enough to be the nominee.”
It looks like Biden may be unstoppable for the Democrats. Super Tuesday gave Biden at least 513 pledged delegates while Sanders has about 461. All the other Democrats – most of whom dropped out – have a little over 100 delegates so far.
As the delegate counts filter in, Biden will get more delegates from Texas and Sanders will benefit from the final count in California.
To get pledged delegates, a candidate must get at least 15% of the votes statewide or in an individual congressional district. Delegates are given proportionally in each state to candidates who meet those thresholds.
On Super Tuesday, Sanders won his home state Vermont, Colorado, Utah and California. On that same day, Biden won Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Minnesota and Massachusetts.
Biden’s popularity was demonstrated when he defeated Warren in her home state of Massachusetts and Klobuchar in her home state of Minnesota.
“They don’t call it Super Tuesday for nothing,” Biden said. “Tonight, I tell you with absolute confidence, we are going to win the Democratic nomination…”
Also on May 3, Tulsa County voters approved a proposition by 73% that will allow liquor stores to stay open on Sundays.
