As parents, we should insist on the best for our children’s education.
As Abraham Lincoln said, ”The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation will become the philosophy of the government in the next.”
Public schools will continue to be one of the major forces that shape the next generation, but there is a shocking dearth of both teaching and learning of American history, civics and morality for character development in the schools.
Much of our nation’s great heritage has been lost due to what is being taught and not taught in a majority of our schools. This did not happen by accident but has been deliberate.
Many parents during the current health crisis have learned what is or is not being taught to their children and so are opting out of public schools and choosing homeschooling, or private/parochial school curricula. Activists from many leftist organizations have for decades labored to change the moral values on which this nation was founded.
State and national scores on academic subjects show marked decline in students’ achievement in reading, math, science, English according to the Secretary of Education Betsy Voss. Many institutions of higher learning have promoted progressivism so that many Christian families sending their children to such institutions see their children returning home with significant changes in their moral, political and spiritual perspectives with values radically transformed to unchristian beliefs and practices.
Christian parents need to be aware of what is happening in the school systems locally, statewide and nationally in order to know how to take action to save their children from this kind of fate and find ways to equip and protect their children from the threats existing in our culture.
Christian parents must not put off the decisions they must make to secure a healthy education for their children.
There is hope and help for making the needed and wise decisions. One can listen to Cathy Ruse (on staff at Family Research Council [FRC]) with her presentation on the “plague of morally toxic public schools” or hear Mary Rice Hasson, author of Get Out Now: Why You Should Pull Your Child From Public School Before It’s Too Late.
There is also Candice Dugger’s presentation on how parents can make the transition from public school to homeschooling and other alternatives.
Then FRC also provides a series of helps done by home school experts Mike Donnelly, Cathy Duffy and Lawana Perkins about homeschooling option.
We need to pray for God to enable us parents to fulfill the biblical mandate to bring up our children in the way they should go so that when they are old, they will not depart from having learned how to follow the path and journey to a life of righteousness.
