Pastor Jackson Lahmeyer has announced that he will run against U.S. Sen. James Lankford for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2022.
Lahmeyer has been endorsed by retired General Michael Flynn.
Lahmeyer said that Lankford, a Baptist minister who used to run Falls Creek Christian Camp, is a good man but not strong when it comes to making decisions.
Lankford declined to go along with a formal objection to the results of the November 2020 presidential elections. Lankford said his primary goal was reform of election practice rather than a challenge to the Electoral College. Lankford apologized to black groups in Tulsa who objected to his initial support of the challenge against the election.
Lahmeyer said a negative reaction by the news media and Black Lives Matter to an event at his church to support the police prompted him to run.
“I don’t think (Lankford) stood up enough for the presidency,” Flynn said in Tulsa. “Not just the president. This is not all about Trump.”
Lahmeyer is pastor of Sheridan Church (formerly Sheridan Christian Center) and the Oklahoma director of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (run by Franklin Graham).
Former NASA Administrator and Oklahoma Congressman Jim Bridenstine announced his endorsement of Lankford when he is up for re-election next year.
Lankford has not formally announced that he is running again.
Bridenstine, said, “James Lankford is exactly what Oklahoma needs in a Senator. His exceptional intellect is only matched by his diligence and high integrity.
“When I was in Congress and at NASA, I could always count on James to be true to his convictions. He does what is right and makes his positions transparent.
“Oklahoma and America are well served by James. Our state strongly benefits from the proven conservative leadership of James Lankford in the United States Senate. He has my wholehearted support and endorsement.”
On April 16-17, Tulsa businessman Clay Clark is hosting the “Health and Freedom Conference” at Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow.
Lahmeyer, Flynn, Clark, former Trump attorneys Lin Wood and Sidney Powell and other are scheduled to speak.
