My Life, My Quit, a text-based tobacco cessation program designed specifically for youth, has new educational materials available free for schools and health care providers to use in their interactions with students and patients ages 13-17.
My Life, My Quit is a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET).
“Now that more schools, clinics and doctors are beginning to see Oklahoma children in-person, we want to equip them with shareable resources for families,” said Julie Bisbee, TSET executive director. “These My Life, My Quit materials connect teens struggling with tobacco addiction to free services provided in ways teens want to communicate – by text, web or phone. Early tobacco intervention and prevention are critical to achieving optimal health.”
The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) has a long history of helping Oklahomans to quit tobacco in an effort to fight the leading causes of preventable death in our state – cancer and cardiovascular disease. The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, has helped more than 450,000 Oklahomans on their tobacco-free journeys. In 2020, TSET introduced My Life, My Quit to specifically reach Oklahoma youth battling tobacco, vape and addiction.
Oklahoma has some of the highest youth tobacco and vape use rates in the nation, with 1 in 5 students using some form of tobacco. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have stated that no form of youth tobacco use is safe.
For teens seeking to quit tobacco, My Life, My Quit is an evidence-based cessation program that offers free live text support, web chat and phone coaching.
