It was always a pleasure being Charley’s guest on the radio. This post speaks to one I did with him 7 years ago. He was an amazing host to his guests.
Charley asked me to come to the radio studio and record an interview with him for his Saturday weekly radio show on KCFO AM 970 a Christian Radio station. I asked him what we would be talking about, and he answered: let us talk about what is going on in the economy, employment and one of his favorite topics, New Life Ranch.
He told me no preparation was expected on my side, other than show up. After recording the session with him I had lunch with a close friend, and he was telling me about his Toastmasters Club meetings. At their meetings, they toss out a topic and you speak to the topic for two minutes. I felt much like I must have been at a Toastmasters meeting as the questions came from Charley and whatever came to my mind hailed from my lips.
He asked about our company first and gave me the opportunity to talk about how we help companies with employees throughout their life cycle in the workplace. The selection of great employees with our professional search team, excellent on-boarding training and then development training and support during their employment. Lastly, if for some reason there is a need for a reduction, career transition assistance is offered to exiting employees with high touch and high tech delivery. No problem talking about what I do for a living.
The program ran the gamut from the economy, the tax law consequences for employers and their employees, notification of a 400 employee reduction in OKC, investment in your employees for development not just performance improvement, employees working from home remotely, pursuing Amazon to move to Tulsa with their HQ, attraction of great talent to our workforce in our community etc.
I referenced Scott L Johnson a couple of times in the interview as we talked about how busy people are in the workplace and at leisure. Scott spoke on the morning I did the interview with Charley to a group of business professionals at the Regent Bank “Faith in Business” on the topic of having balance in your life. Scott spoke of having God, family, work in that order and then challenged us if we believed that it was the best order for a Christian. He then proceeded to educate us of the importance of having real balance as a Christian. A better understanding of balance is to have God in the center of everything we do, not just at the top of the list. It was an outstanding presentation. Scott loves to help people get balance in life and it was fun to talk about his message on the radio with Charley. If you have an interest in hearing Scott’s message, just google Scott L Johnson and do not forget the “L”.
We talked about New Life Ranch and how they reach campers and guests of all ages and how the Lord has blessed the ministry of the Ranch for 60 years. Always great to talk about this camp and its eternal impact. www.newliferanch.com for more info
The topic moved to my daughter April who is the wife of Tom Graney, the Executive Director of New Life Ranch. April just released a children’s book called The Marvelous Mud House, which is the story of their mission’s trip to Kenya and how it changed their family forever. My son and his family served at Kapsowar Hospital as a missionary doctor for 11 years in Kenya.
Well, hope you have a chance to speak at a Toastmasters meeting soon or invited to be interviewed on a radio program. Both are wonderful opportunities to speak from your heart. Thanks for reading my ramblings.
