In a reaction to increased online banking and difficulties from the coronavirus pandemic, Arvest Bank of Fayetteville, Arkansas, announced it would close 31 branches of its 270 branch locations – including two in Tulsa.

Arvest Bank will close Tulsa branches at 2019 E. 81st Street and 3233 S. Yale at 5 p.m. on June 30. Branches in Catoosa, Coweta, Muskogee, Sand Springs and Stillwater are on the list of closures.

“The past year has introduced many challenges to the banking industry and accelerated existing trends in consumer preferences and behavior,” Arvest said in a statement. “Most significant for Arvest Bank has been a shift in the balance between branch transactions and digital banking.

“In response to these significant changes in customer banking preferences, Arvest has conducted an in-depth analysis and will make changes to its branch network in 2021.”

According to arvest.com, the branch at 4825 E. 36th Street is temporarily closed. It is not on the list to be closed permanently.

It will close a total of 15 branches in Oklahoma, 12 in Arkansas and four in Missouri. Some are inside Wal-Mart Stores, including one on Rogers, Arkansas.

Some employees will be laid off but the company said it would try to relocate them in other branches.

“Well-trained and committed associates are the pillar of Arvest’s success and it is the bank’s desire to retain as many associates as possible by helping them secure other roles at Arvest locations,” Arvest stated.

About one third of the branches to be closed are not full service and many are in markets where other branches are nearby.

Arvest plans to build eight new facilities and 15 remodeling projects over the next 12-18 months.

The bank also plans to deploy 38 additional ATM with Live Teller machines throughout its network.

These machines allow customers to have face-to-face communication with Arvest tellers via a video screen and complete more types of transactions than a traditional ATM.

They also offer standard ATM capabilities 24 hours a day.
