Socialist Bernie Sanders and most of the Democrats who are running for president are promising “Medicare for everyone” as a cornerstone of their reshaping of America.

Sanders is literally telling voters that he will give them free health care.

That’s a big, fat lie.

First, extending Medicare to everyone would bankrupt America. In that regard, Medicare for everyone is not a serious proposal (and Sanders knows it).

Secondly, Medicare for everyone means a single-payer health care system run by the government. If you think that is a good idea, you ought to take a hard look at how the government is doing with health care for military veterans. It also means the end of private health care insurance.

Thirdly, Medicare for everyone means the end of Medicare for seniors. That’s right. If Medicare is extended to everyone, benefits to seniors will have to be cut at least in half. That means that people over 65 who have paid into Medicare for 50 or 60 years or more will not receive the benefits they paid for with payroll check deductions.

Medicare for everyone, like almost every other “progressive “policy, won’t work and is a counterfeit promise.
