The OSU Cowboys defeated the Oklahoma Sooners for the third time this year in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament last week,  57-49 effectively eliminating the Sooners from post-season play.

The Cowboys hampered by injuries still managed to defeat the Sooners.  Caleb Asberry was their high scorer with 15 points, while Bryce Thompson contributed 12 points to lead the Cowboys to th win.

On the Sooner side of the ball, Tanner Groves put in 13 points and Grant Sherfield scored 8. The Sooners did put together a 12-0 run in the first half, and were behind 26-10 at the half.

The Sooners struggled offensively, only shooting 25% from the field; the Cowboys shot 35 %.

The Cowboys also put together a  run of 18 – 1 early in the first half.

Cowboy head coach Mike Boynton commented after the game, “Yeah. Really obviously hard fought game. Two teams fighting to keep their seasons alive and continue to play on, like you see around the country everywhere. I’m really just proud of our guys, the fight that it took to continue to defend at the level we were able to tonight, even when shots weren’t falling.

OSU advanced to play Texas in quarterfinal play.
