The Big Ten Conference, which had postponed football until the spring, has changed course and will begin conference play on October 24.

Each team will be scheduled to play eight conference games in eight weeks before the Big Ten Conference Championship on December 19. That means the Big Ten champion could get major consideration for the College Football Playoff. In the preseason Top 25, Ohio State was No. 2 and Penn State was No. 7.

President Donald Trump encouraged the Big Ten to restart its season despite the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.  The Big Ten will not have fans in the stadiums. The schedule will be released sometime in September. Players will be tested for the coronavirus and if the tests are positive, they will have to sit out at least 21 days and undergo heart tests.  If a team is shorthanded due to the virus, it will forfeit.

The Pac-12 Conference is reportedly not considering starting play this fall. Some reports say it could happen in late November but that is up in the air due the coronavirus plus the poor air quality due to the massive forest fires in California and Oregon.
