The Oklahoma Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wants to defeat a House Bill 3967, which is a gesture of support from Oklahoma to the Nation Israel.

According to a CAIR press release, “HB3967, if enacted, would force businesses or individuals contracting with the state to certify that they will not engage in a boycott of goods or services from Israel.”

CAIR masquerades as a “human rights” organization but this reaction to HB3967 is a clear indication of the political basis for CAIR and their disdain for Israel.

House Bill 3967 specifies that unless exempted by the secretary of state, the state of Oklahoma will not enter into contracts with companies that advocate boycotts, divestments or sanctions (BDS) against Israel. The state also will not adopt a policy that has the effect of inducing or requiring a person to boycott Israel or territories under its jurisdiction.

“Israel is Oklahoma’s twelfth largest trading partner and the United States’ No. 1 ally in the Middle East,” said State Rep. Mark McBride. “And yet we have people here in the state and nationally who would like to see Israel cease to exist as a nation. This is not only anti-business and anti-peace, but it is morally wrong.”

Would CAIR like to see the end of Israel? That sentiment seems to match their rhetoric and their reaction to HB3967.

Twenty-eight other states have adopted similar bills. Israel is one of America’s greatest allies. If CAIR wants to boycott Israel, they have every right to do so. They should know that a boycott would forfeit the privilege of doing business with the State of Oklahoma.
