Misguided liberals in Tulsa don’t want Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regaldo to check on the legal status of suspected illegal immigrants in the county jail.

For years, the county has cooperated with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to have detention officers conduct background checks on prisoners to see if they are in this country legally.

The cooperative agreement is in place because it is against the law to be in this country illegally. It’s that simple.

Amazingly, some groups – including the YWCA, the Greater Tulsa-Area Hispanic Affairs Commission, Fellowship Congregational United Church of Christ, Domestic Violence Intervention Services and other progressive strongholds – want to prevent the checking of the legal status of prisoners.

They actually argue that crime will go up if the county continues to check for illegal alien status. They say that illegal aliens are afraid to report crimes against them because of fear that they will be deported if officials find they are here illegally.

These advocates are flaming liberals who essentially want open borders. Some hide behind the cloak of religion while others are Democrats who want to flood the nation with illegal refugees in hopes of an eventual blanket amnesty. Then they hope they will all register as Democrats.

It’s laughable with Democrats in Congress talk about the “rule of law” when they promote sanctuary cities and seek to endow illegals with the full set of rights due to citizens.

America was built by immigrants who came here legally and played by the rules. They became Americans and they taught their children by example.

Protecting illegals from routine checks just makes the situation worse.
