The third largest fast food restaurant chain in America won the respect and loyalty of millions of Christians and non-Christians alike due to their unwavering devotion to the principles of its founder Truett Cathy, who passed away in 2014. The Christian world was shocked when it learned that the stand-out Christian business had succumbed to years of pressure from LGBT and pulled their annual support for the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (due to their stand on biblical morality) in favor of other groups with a hate agenda, e.g. the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Christians wholeheartedly loved and supported Chick-fil-A (CFA) because of their adherence to biblical principles, but learning of their current practice of support for hate and immorality, they were angry, felt disbelief, betrayal and disappointment. CFA has deliberately compromised its principles that made it great by in 2017 tax records show they made a financial gift to the SPLC, one of the most virulent anti-Christian organizations in America.
Caving to pressure from those hostile to Christianity does not help their testimony to be credible. Taking a stand for righteousness is costly in more than loss of profits. It is so costly as to incur intimidation, ridicule, slander and eventually even martyrdom as seen in many nations where Islam is prevalent. In America, religious persecution is occurring more and more, too. CFA’s Christian witness has been damaged and may not be regained (even if they piously close on Sundays).
Family Research Council and Tony Perkins have many resources available online to enlighten us about ways to be informed and emboldened to take an unwavering stand for Godly principles in the home, in the marketplace and wherever one my go. With Christianity under fire, everybody is watching.
Compromised Christianity is fake and one’s testimony no longer is credible and powerfully effective for righteousness.
Our prayers should be for CFA, Hobby Lobby and other Christian ministries that they stand firm no matter the pressure and ask the Lord to change the hearts of Chick-fil-A. May He move on this company to see the damage they have done, repent and cause other Christian companies to not be influenced by CFA’s actions.
1 Samuel 2:30 says, “He who honors Me, I will honor and they that despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”
