Tulsa football fans will have to wait until October 30 to see the teams play in Tulsa.

Tulsa was supposed to host No. 8 Cincinnati Saturday for homecoming but that game was postponed because of coronavirus problems with the Bearcats.

The game has been rescheduled for Dec. 5 at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa.

Tulsa will travel to Tampa  for a 6:30 p.m. game against South Florida on ESPN on October 23 but will not have the home opening game until October 30 (Friday) when they host East Carolina. TU hosts East Carolina at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30.

“I hate this situation for our guys because they’ve done everything we’ve asked, but it’s out of our control,” Tulsa coach Philip Montgomery said. “We’re always going to do what’s best for the health and safety of our student-athletes.”

TU treated this week with their regular preparations.

“We know we’ve got to focus on what we can control and that’s going to be our next opponent in South Florida,” Montgomery said. “It does give us an extra day (to prepare), so we’ll try to make the most of that, for sure.”

The postponement was disappointing to players, coaches, administrators and fans.

“We are disappointed we will be unable to play Tulsa Saturday,” said Cincinnati Athletic Director John Cunningham. “We knew this season was going to require a lot of patience and flexibility and disruptions were likely to happen. The health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff is always our primary focus and we appreciated the outstanding work and continued dedication of our medical staff throughout the pandemic.”

Tulsa (1-1, 1-0 in the American Athletic Conference) has already had a game postponed with Arkansas State due to the pandemic.

Tickets and parking purchased for the original Oct.17 date will remain valid for the rescheduled game, and ticket holders do not need to take further action. For more information regarding tickets, visit TulsaHurricane.com or contact the ticket office at tuticketoffice@utulsa.edu.

South Florida is 1-3, with losses to No. 7 Notre Dame (0-52), Cincinnati (7-28) and East Carolina (24-44). The Bulls opened the season with a 27-6 win over The Citadel. USF had a game with Florida Atlantic postponed due to the coronavirus. South Florida played at Temple Saturday.
