The “Black Lives Matter” street sign illegally painted in yellow letters on historic Greenwood Avenue in Downtown Tulsa will be removed.

Tulsa County Republican Chairman Bob Jack said that if the Black Live Matter sign is approved, city councilors should OK a request to paint “Back the Blue” on a city street. That sign supports law enforcement.

City legal advisors said it is unconstitutional to allow one political sign and not another one. And if they allow any sign, that would open the door to pornographic signs or other objectionable messages.

Activists painted the sign just before President Trump’s campaign visit to Tulsa. They did not have a city permit or permission and they deceived a policemen and told him the sign was made in chalk when it was really paint.

Mayor G.T. Bynum decided to remove the sign.  Property owners and the merchant/tenant association want it gone.
