North Texas breaks TU winning streak
TULSA WINNING STREAK ENDS
North Texas got past Tulsa, 72-67, in an American Athletic Conference match up on Sunday, in Denton, Texas. It was only the second loss of the season for the Golden Hurricane who are now 13-2 overall, 1-1 in the AAC. North Texas improved to 10-5, 1-1 AAC.
The game was close throughout with nine ties and 14 lead changes. Tulsa led by one, 28-27, at halftime.
Tulsa and North Texas battled intensely down the stretch, with North Texas outscoring Tulsa 45-39 in the second half, to end Tulsa’s 10-game winning streak, their longest since the 2014-15 season.
Tulsa was led by David Green with 19 points, Miles Barnstable with 12 points, and Tylen Riley with 11.
North Texas was led by Je’shawn Stevenson who scored 21 points. Dylan Arnett was the only other Mean Green player in double digits with 10.
The Golden Hurricane will host South Florida on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Reynolds Center. The game will be on ESPN+.
ORU LOSES IN 2OT
Oral Roberts played an exciting double-overtime game at North Dakota State; however, the Bison prevailed in the end with a 79-77 win over the Golden Eagles, on Saturday in Fargo, N.D. It was the first double-overtime game for ORU since March 4th, 2018.
ORU is now 5-12 overall and 0-2 in the Summit League, while NDSU improved to 12-5, 2-0 SL.
ORU had three players who scored in double figures, led by Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams, who had 19 points and two blocks. Connor Dow had 15 points and two steals while Ofri Naveh added 14 points.
ORU fell behind early (18-7) before going on a 10-0 run with 12:09 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Naveh, to narrow its deficit to 18-17. ORU led 37-32 at halftime.
Regulation ended with the score tied, 57-57, ending the game to overtime.
ORU will host St. Thomas on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
SOONERS WIN SEC OPENER
It was the SEC game of the season for both teams and the Oklahoma Sooners came away with a decisive 86-70 win over Ole Miss at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman on Saturday.
For the Sooners improved to 11-3 overall (1-0 SEC) and picked up their ninth victory in the last 10 games. The Rebels fell to 8-6 overall (0-1).
OU had a stellar shooting performance in the game with a 52% field goal percentage, and holding Ole Miss to only 38% from the field. The Sooners also didn’t make many mistakes and committed just seven turnovers. in a convincing 86-70.
OU guard Xzayvier Brown led the Sooners with a season-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Brown went 4-for-5 from 3-point range and didn’t commit a turnover in his 25 minutes of play. Center Mohamed Wague turned in one of his best overall outings with 10 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, three assists and a career-high-tying three blocked shots.
Guard Nijel Pack and forward Tae Davis each scored 15 points.
OU will play at Texas A&M this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will air on the SEC Network.
OSU LOSES ON THE ROAD
No. 15 ranked Texas Tech cruised to 102-80 home win over Oklahoma State on Saturday in Lubbock, Tex. The Red Raiders improved to 11-3, 1-0 Big 12, while OSU dropped to 12-2, 0-1 Big 12.
Texas Tech was led by JT Toppin who scored 23 points and pulled in 14 rebounds for his 39th career double-double. Christian Anderson and LeJuan Watts each added 19 points for the Red Raiders.
For OSU, Anthony Roy had 22 points with six 3-pointers and eight rebounds Parsa Fallah scored 20 points, and Jaylen Curry added 13. For Fallah, he surpassed 1,000 points in his collegiate career.
Fallah made a layup on the first shot of the game for the Cowboys, and that was their only lead. Toppin had a tying layup to start a 12-3 run that put Tech ahead to stay.
The Red Raiders led 46-38 at halftime.
OSU will play at Iowa State on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2.
