BLACKSBURG, Virginia – Oklahoma blasted five runs to race past No. 7 Virginia Tech Sunday 11-2 to earn a ticket to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

OU (42-22) will open against Texas A&M at 1 p.m. Friday on ESPN.

OU will make the College World Series for the 11th time and the first since 2010.

Tanner Tredaway hit two home runs and Peyton Graham had his 20th homerun of the season. Kendall Pettis and Jackson Nicklaus each had home runs for the Sooners.

Tredaway went 4 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs.

“We just kind of shortened up our swings a little bit,” Tredaway said. “I think me and Kenny [Pettis] both do. We like to choke up a little bit, keep our swings short. The biggest thing is that there was stuff left over the plate, and we were able to do some damage with it.

OU pitcher Cade Horton (4-2) struck out eight batters in six innings and retired 11 of his final 13 batters. Chazz Martinez and Trevin Michael closed for OU.

“My plan going in was just to attack and get ahead,” said Horton, who entered with a 6.03 ERA and improved to 4-2. “And honestly just focus on hitting the target. That’s all you can control when pitching is just hitting the target.”

Horton, who also played football last year at Norman High School,  allowed just two hits and two earned runs.

“Just coming off an injury, not playing since my junior year of high school, it was really tough coming back,” Horton said. “And so I think it was more getting game experience and then also settling down and just focusing on one pitch at a time. We talk about it all the time in this program, just take it one pitch at a time, win one pitch.”

“His breaking ball was really good, I thought his fastball getting to his glove side was really good,” Sooners coach Skip Johnson said of Horton. “His presence is always really good. You could see him walk off the mound when he recognized that he kind of got out of control…I thought he was outstanding going pitch to pitch.”

OU is 24-10 since April 12.

On Saturday, Virginia Tech beat OU 14-8 to force the Sunday tiebreaker in the NCAA Super Regional.

Oklahoma cut a 5-0 deficit to 5-4 in the fourth inning and then loaded the bases and scored three runs in the eighth inning to pull within 13-8. Blake Robertson and Jimmy Crooks each drove in two runs and Nicklaus added notched two hits and scored a run.

OU starting pitcher David Sandlin (8-4) took his first loss since May 14.
