The Dallas Cowboys also drafted former OU defensive lineman Neville Gallimore with the 18th pick of third round (82nd overall).

The Cowboys were surprised that Gallimore had lasted that long without being picked, too. “We’re living right,” Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said Friday. “It fell right to us these past two days.”

Jones called getting Gallimore in the third round “a big win.”

“If you do stay patient and stay true to your board, things will work out for you,” Stephen Jones said. “Truthfully, to be honest, it was a tough decision for us between Diggs and Gallimore (at pick 51). They were right there. We had some in-depth discussions if you pass on Diggs there. The depth of the draft at corner vs. the depth of the draft at D-line. If you just stick (with the board), good things will happen for you.”

New Cowboy coach Mike McCarthy certainly agreed.

“He’s exactly what we’re looking for,” said McCarthy. “At the end of the day, it’s about the more you can do.”

Gallimore is OU’s first defensive tackle drafted since the Miami Dolphins picked Jordan Phillips in the second round (52nd overall) in 2015. From Ottawa, Ontario, Gallimore started 38 of 52 career games at OU and finished with 148 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. He was a 2019 first-team All-Big 12 selection by the media after making 30 tackles and posting career highs of 7.5 TFLs and 4.0 sacks. Gallimore was one of five finalists for the 2018 Jon Cornish Trophy, which is awarded to most outstanding Canadian player in NCAA football.
