The Cowboys weren’t through with picking players from the State of Oklahoma. With the 17th pick of the fourth round, they drafted former Tulsa cornerback Reggie Robinson II.

Robinson was the top defensive back in the American Athletic Conference in 2019. He was the league leader for passes defended with 17, including a conference-leading 13 pass break-ups, and ranked second for interceptions with four.

Robinson is Tulsa’s first NFL draft choice since the 2011 season when tight end Charles Clay went in the 6th round (No.174) to the Miami Dolphins. He is the highest Tulsa draft pick since tight end Garrett Mills was a 4th round (No. 106) selection by the New England Patriots. He is the first Tulsa player picked by Dallas since Barry Minter was a Cowboys’ 6th round pick in 1993.

“If there was a most improved player at the cornerback position in college football this year it was Reggie Robinson,” said ESPN college football analyst Mel Kiper, Jr., on ESPN.

As a junior, Robinson played in only eight games due to injury and totaled 19 tackles and five pass break-ups. He had 38 tackles and a team-high nine pass break-ups his sophomore season. Robinson played in the Senior Bowl and was invited to the NFL Combine following the 2019 season.

Robinson, from Cleburne, Texas, about 50 miles outside Dallas, a likely would have been a “Dallas Day” participant if the Cowboys’ annual local pre-draft event wasn’t cancelled due to the nation’s COVID-19 crisis. Robinson started games at cornerback all four years at Tulsa, posting a career-best four interceptions as a senior last year. His four picks and 17 pass breakups led the AAC, making him a first-team all-conference pick.

As a senior, Robinson totaled 38 tackles, ranked 6th in the AAC for fumbles recovered with 2 and had one blocked kick. Robinson was named The American’s Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against UCF when he totaled five tackles, all solos, three pass break-ups and one interception that led to Tulsa’s game-winning field goal.

In the Wyoming game, Robinson blocked a field goal and recovered a fumble late in the game that gave Tulsa the victory. He had his first career multiple interception game with 2 pick-offs at Tulane and totaled a career-high 12 against #25 Memphis. In the season finale against ECU, Robinson collected a career-best 4 pass break-ups and had a 31-yard fumble recovery.
