As inconceivable as it may seem, on February 25, Senate Democrats refused to authorize life-saving medical assistance to babies who survive a botched abortion. Instead, they decided to let the baby lie unattended until their tiny heart stops beating.

Senate Republicans put forth Senate Bill S.311, entitled “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” making it mandatory that all health care practitioners “exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion – and to ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.”

However, forty-one Democrat senators voted to block the bill, and successfully filibustered the legislation and prevented it from receiving a final vote in the Senate.  Fifty-six senators voted in favor of the bill, including three Democrats: Bob Casey, Jr. (Pennsylvania), Doug Jones (Alabama), and Joe Manchin (West Virginia).

The three Democrat senators who had been running for president – Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren – did not vote – but all had voted against the legislation in February 2019 when it was first discussed.  According to long-established Senate rules, the bill required a supermajority of 60 votes to pass.

This exposes the hypocrisy of Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate.  Every Democrat proudly proclaims that every person is entitled to quality healthcare – but obviously, in their eyes, that entitlement does not include innocent babies who survive a botched abortion. 

If Democrats are unwilling to protect innocent little babies, what makes you think they will protect you and your family; particularly those who are unable to care for themselves; i.e., the elderly, sick or disabled?
