The City of Tulsa has a better score than last year on the 2019 Equality Indicators report.

Big deal.

This report really means nothing. It is an effort by liberal officials – mostly registered Republicans – to make the public think that something is being done to make Tulsa’s minority populations feel at ease.

The first clue about the worthlessness of this report is that it was created “with guidance from the City University of New York Institute for State and Local Governance (ISLG), who developed the original Equality Indicators methodology.”

Those are a lot of words that mean nothing from an ultra-liberal university in the heart of the most progressive metro area in the nation. The professors there who cooked up this project must be squealing with joy about a backwards city like Tulsa buying into their nonsense.

Mayor G.T. Bynum thinks that “racial equity” is the most important topic in Tulsa. Americans have always held that equal opportunity should be a goal of our republic but the modern definition of racial equity is for government to take from the “privileged” to give to the “impoverished.”

All men are created equal but not everyone has the same talent or drive and outcomes will be different based on a variety of factors. The government shouldn’t pick winners and losers.

What Tulsans are underserved? Do they not have access to services like water, sewer, electricity, etc.? Do they not get police and fire protection? Does the city not pave their streets?

City officials love to grow government by creating programs and then drowning them with descriptions that mean nothing.

This report is another example of that.
