Gov. Kevin Stitt has called a special primary election for February 9 to fill the vacancy of the Tulsa County Treasurer, County Election Board Secretary Gwen Freeman said.

The primary election will be February 9 and the special general election will be April 6.

John Fothergill was named interim treasurer following the retirement of Dennis Semler.

A filing period for that post will from 8 a.m. December 7 to 5 p.m. December 9. Filing packets are available through the County Election Board office at 555 N. Denver Ave. The telephone number is 918-596-5780.

School board filings

Also, filing for school board elections will be December 7-9. A board of education primary is set for February 9 if two or more candidates file for a specific office. A candidate who gets 50% plus one vote will win the election and if no one gets that many, the top two vote getters advance to the general election on April 6. If only two candidates file, they will appear only on the April 6 ballot.

There are school board races in Tulsa (Offices 2 and 3); Sand Springs (Office 1); Broken Arrow (Office 1); Bixby (Office 1); Jenks (Office 1); Collinsville (Office 1); Skiatook (Offices 1 and2); Sperry (Office 1); Union (Office 1); Berryhill (Office 1); Owasso (Office 1); Glenpool (Offices 1, 4 and 5); Liberty (Office 1); Keystone (Office 1); and Tulsa Technology Center School District No. 18 (Office 6).

Municipal election filings

Also on December 7-9, candidates can file for municipal races in Owasso (Council Wards 1 and 2) and Sand Springs (at-large and Wards 5 and 6). A nonpartisan election will be February 9 and if needed, a general election on April 6.
