Oklahoma Human Services helps Oklahomans fight hunger and prevent food insecurity

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 17, 2025) – Oklahoma Human Services plays a vital role in helping Oklahomans prevent hunger and food insecurity for themselves and their family members. The agency administers several programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), that helps supplement the diets of low-income Oklahomans. Through these programs and other key efforts, our agency stands ready to ensure that no Oklahoman goes hungry.

Here are five ways Oklahoma Human Services can help you keep food on the table:

SNAP

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps individuals and families with low income buy the food they need to stay healthy. SNAP provides monthly benefits on an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card, which works like a debit card and can be used at most grocery stores and farmers markets. SNAP supports nutrition, reduces food insecurity, and boosts local economies by helping people afford groceries while they work toward greater stability. To learn more or apply, call (405) 522-5050, visit us online at SNAP, or visit your local Oklahoma Human Services office.

Double Up Oklahoma

Double Up Oklahoma (DUO) helps individuals bring home more healthy food by matching their SNAP dollars spent on fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets and participating grocery stores. Those who receive SNAP benefits are automatically eligible for DUO Bucks. Learn more at Home – Double Up Oklahoma.

TEFAP

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provides emergency nutrition support. It is a federally funded food distribution program administered through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). TEFAP helps supplement the diets of low-income Americans by providing emergency food and nutrition assistance at no cost, through food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens. Individuals can apply for TEFAP at their local food pantry. To find a food pantry near you visit  The Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma online. Learn more about TEFAP on our website.

SFMNP

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides low-income seniors, who are at least 60 years old, with up to $50 in funds to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and honey from participating farmers markets. Individuals can apply in person at participating farmers markets or online at Home – OLAC: Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Be A Neighbor

Be A Neighbor is a valuable resource offered by Oklahoma Human Services that is designed to strengthen collaboration and establish connections between Oklahomans in need of additional support and local nonprofits, faith-based groups, tribes, and community organizations. Through the Be A Neighbor portal, individuals can search for resources like food, clothing and housing and find organizations in their local communities offering those resources and services.
