The choice in the February 9 in the Republican primary for Tulsa County Treasurer is simple.
Acting Tulsa County Treasurer John Fothergill is the obvious choice due to his experience and history.
Fothergill previously served as Chief Deputy of the Treasurer under Dennis Semler. Semler was exemplary in his work as county treasurer and his unexpected early retirement was softened by Fothergill being in place to take over.
Fothergill is a graduate of Jenks High School and Northeastern State University with a B.A. in finance.
For over a decade, he was the Director of Constituent Services, Legislative Liaison, and Council Aide serving all nine City of Tulsa Council Districts. He is a former Board of Adjustment Member, city councilor, and Vice-Mayor of Sand Springs. He also served on the Tulsa Area Metropolitan Planning Commission, was a former Chair and committee member of PatriotFest, and a former board member of Oklahoma Municipal League.
Fothergill is a member of the Coalition of Tulsa Area Governments and has served 16-years on the Event Management Team for Oktoberfest. He is a board member of the Sand Springs Rotary, the Metropolitan Environmental Trust, the Lucile Page Manor Apartments, Route 66 Main Street, and Tulsa Levee District 12.
Fothergill helps with the BSA Troop 507 of Sand Springs. He also helps run a cow-calf operation on a 160-acre farm in Garfield County with his dad and brother.
Most importantly, he knows the job and he offers the best chance to keep the Treasurer’s Office in good working order.
His GOP opponent, Francis Joseph Hart III, of Broken Arrow, is a mystery candidate. The winner of the February 9 primary will face Democrat Maria Sanchez of Broken Arrow, also an unknown.
The Tulsa Beacon endorses John Fothergill for Tulsa County Treasurer on February 9.
