Around 130,000 Oklahomans who owe child support back payments may not receive federal stimulus checks, according to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Stimulus checks are not exempt from debt collection. The IRS can intercept those checks just as they can a tax refund. Unemployment benefits through the CARES Act may also be affected.

Payroll Protection Program

The money for the federal Payroll Protection Program is all gone and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is blocking GOP efforts to add to that fund.

“I was prepared to fly to D.C. last week,” said U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern. “I fully supported the Senate legislation to re-fill the PPP fund, but Senate Democrats killed the bill and left town.

“I’m on the phone every day with business owners and constituents in the First District. Our people are distraught over their loss of income and the forced closure of the businesses they’ve poured their entire lives into. They’re frustrated, and so am I. Our business owners are trying to do whatever it takes to keep their businesses running and employees paid, but Democrats are playing politics.”

According to Small Business Administration data, Oklahoma ranks 18th in the nation for total approved Paycheck Protection Program loan applications, despite ranking 28th in population.

A study referenced by NASDAQ  indicates that Oklahoma is one of the top states in the country by rate of successful applications.
