Still looking for their first SEC win of the season, the Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team was defeated by Georgia, 72-62, on Saturday night at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga. Georgia improved its record to 14-2 overall, 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference, while the No. 17 Sooners lost their third in a row, and are now 13-3, 0-3 SEC.

The Bulldogs were led by Dakota Leffew and Asa Newell who each scored 15 points, lifting Georgia to its second consecutive win over a Top 25 team.

The Sooners were led by Jalon Moore with 17 points and nine rebounds. He made 2-of-4 three pointers. Duke Miles and Kobe Elvis each had 14, and Mohamed Wague added 10. Elvis bounced back from a scoreless performance against Texas A&M the previous game.

Oklahoma was doomed by a poor shooting performance, hitting season lows of .381 from the field and .259 (7 for 27) from 3-point range.

It was only the second time these two teams have met. The previous matchup came in the Chaminade Christmas Classic on Dec. 25, 1987, in Honolulu, Hawai’i. The Sooners won that one, 83-80.

A pleasant surprise for the Sooners, former OU star Trae Young attended the game. Young, now with the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA, had the night off after the Hawks game against Houston was cancelled due to a winter storm in the area.

Oklahoma is at home to play South Carolina on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., at Lloyd Noble Center.
