Not too long ago, efforts to stop abortion were stopped in the Legislature by Democrat committee chairmen in the Oklahoma Senate. That was back when the Democrats controlled both houses of the Legislature.
Now, self-labeled “pro-life” Republican leaders are rejecting legislature to get abolish abortion as the GOP controls both the House and the Senate.
Shame on Sen. Jason Smalley, chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services committee, for refusing to even allow a hearing on Senate Bill 13, a measure authored by Sen. Joseph Silk, R-Broken Bow (Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, is a co-author) that would make abortion illegal in the state.
Smalley and Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, refuse to hear any bill that stops abortion. They both consider abortion to be a “constitutional right” because of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade.
Abortion legalization is not in the U.S. Constitution. Americans and Oklahomans have never voted to approve the murder of unborn children.
The U.S. Supreme Court is not infallible. They misinterpret the Constitution and activist justices have created legislation when their role is merely interpretation of law under the Constitution.
The Constitution outlines the powers of the federal government and abortion is not under federal control.
Weak-kneed Republicans like Smalley and Treat celebrate the occasional state law that doesn’t stop abortion but actually codifies its legality. Their decisions cost the lives of innocent children every day in Tulsa and Oklahoma.
SB13 needs to pass. Gov. Kevin Stitt needs to sign it. And the senseless murder of unborn babies needs to be abolished.
