For the week of August 23-29, Tulsa County saw a 4.36 percent decrease in cases of the Chinese coronavirus.   There was a remarkable decrease in hospital admissions, which decreased by 32 percent compared to the previous week.

The minimum age of those hospitalized continues to increase, and for the second week in a row there were no children hospitalized with COVID-19.  Infections in the 0-4 age group are increasing, and 9.4 percent of infections are in those age 17 or younger. The age group 18 – 35 continues to be the largest age group for infections, followed by 36 – 49.

As of September 3, the Tulsa Health Department (THD) has confirmed a total of 13,742 positive COVID-19 cases in Tulsa County with 12,102 recoveries and 136 deaths.

The Tulsa County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved a second $3 million installment of funding for the Tulsa Housing Authority (THA) rental assistance program o after receiving more than $2.3 million worth of applications during the program’s first week. The program opened for applications on August 24, and within the first hours, renters applied for more than $370,000. Through the first 48 hours, 1,152 applications totaled $1.59 million in requests. The average amount requested was $1,408.87.  917 indicated they had been laid off or had a reduction in hours due to the pandemic.

The BOCC approved $2.29 million to 65 small businesses and nonprofits through the Tulsa County CARES RESET (Resources to Empower Small Enterprises for Tomorrow) program. Tulsa County continues to accept applications from local governments, agencies, renters, nonprofit service providers and small businesses. 

The BOCC approved an agreement with A Way Home for Tulsa Continuum of Care to use the county’s former Juvenile Detention Center to help the homeless population. The agreement lets A Way Home to provide an adequate, safe and socially distanced shelter for the homeless in Tulsa County starting in early September. The agreement is temporary.

As of September 3, there have been a total of 61,027 cases of the coronavirus in Oklahoma with 51,447 recoveries and 835 deaths. From August 28 to September 3, there were 5,477 cases, 4,261 recoveries and 57 deaths. In Oklahoma, 96% of the people who died were age 50 or older and the average age of those who died was 75. And there were 518 in the hospital.
