In the first round of the NIT, Tulsa came from 13 points down in the second half to force overtime against Stephen F. Austin, Wednesday night at the Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane took control in the overtime period to win 89-84, and advanced to the second round of the NIT.

Jaylen Lawal scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half and overtime to lead Tulsa to their 27th win of the season, matching the second-most wins in a season in school history.

Ade Popoola added 18 points, including four three-pointers, and recorded three steals. Tyler Behrend contributed significantly with 12 rebounds and nine points.

In Sunday’s second round matchup, Tulsa led for more than 37 minutes of the game and the Golden Hurricane defeated UNLV, 77-66, to advance to the NIT quarterfinals. It’s Tulsa’s third trip to the NIT quarterfinals in school history. Tulsa has won 28 games this season which is the program’s second most in a single season.

Leading Tulsa in scoring was Popoola who scored 16 points, including four three-pointers, and Miles Barnstable also with 16 points, including three three-pointers. Ade Romad Dean turned in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Barnstable broke a longstanding TU record with his 94th three-pointer of the season to break the single season record previously set by Gary Collier in 1993-94.

Tulsa was scheduled to play Wichita State (24-11) on Tuesday. It was the fourth meeting between these two teams this season.
