Why I dress up for church:

I was a World War 2 baby. My parents had lost their first child, a girl, in the late 30’s.

When I was a small child I become very ill and my mother made a commitment to the Lord Jesus that if He would let me live she would encourage me to become a preacher of the gospel. (which I did when I was 30.)

The house we lived in had no running water, no indoor plumbing, no electricity, no telephone and was small. In those days there was little money to be had. Our clothes had much evidence of wearing and were held together by a patchwork of patches.

On Sunday mother would always make sure our clothes were clean and we wore the best we had. She had incorporated reverence to God in that decision. Even later when I was a teenager I had one set of clothes (the best I had) which I wore to church only.

Today at age 76, though I no longer serve full time in a church setting, I go to church dressed up with the best clothes I have, in honor of the Lord Jesus and in honor of my mother and her reverence for God.

I think of her often and particularly on the Lord’s day. She taught me many things but the value of honoring God and my parents were life long contributors.

Though in those early years we had little of the world’s goods we had riches beyond measure that were freely given through the Lord Jesus and my loyal and devoted parents.

I am just sharing this in honor to her, a Godly lady who only had friends, many of them. She died of breast cancer in her 60’s.

Thank you.
