While bowl games are being canceled across the country and teams are choosing not to accept bowl bids, a bowl game in Orlando, Florida, is a nice reward for a topsy turvy college football season.

Oklahoma State, who finished in third place in the Big 12, will play Miami of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the Cheez-It Bowl at 4:30 p.m. on December 29 at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The game will be on ESPN.

“We’re very excited about playing in the Cheez-It Bowl. Orlando is a great location,” said OSU coach Mike Gundy. “We’ve had a great season playing in conference play, which is difficult, then Tulsa being our first non-conference game, who has had a great year, and Miami being our last non-conference game in the bowl, who is having an awesome year. We’ve been able to play some really good football teams and I’m excited about competing against Miami.”

Both OSU and Miami were ranked in the Top 10 at times this season.

“We are looking forward to facing Oklahoma State in the 2020 Cheez-It Bowl,” Miami coach Manny Diaz said. “I’m proud of what our players and coaches have accomplished this season and I’m excited we have an opportunity to secure a bowl win for this outstanding group of Hurricanes.”

OSU won the 2017 Camping World Bowl. The Cowboys won the 1976 Tangerine Bowl, also in Orlando.

This is the 15th year in a row that OSU has played in a bowl – the longest streak in school history and the seventh longest streak in college football.

The Cowboys (7-3 overall; 6-3 Big 12) are No. 21 in the final set of College Football Playoff rankings. Miami (8-2 overall; 7-2 ACC) is ranked No. 18 in the final set of CFP rankings after finishing third in the ACC, behind only CFP-bound Clemson and Notre Dame.

Former OSU All-American running back Chuba Hubbard has left the team due to injuries and for preparation for the NFL Draft. Cowboy wide receiver Tylan Wallace is expected to be healthy and to play in the bowl game.

“We will have the guys together for about three days of practice when we do our testing and then we are letting our team go home for three days for Christmas. We will get back together for a day and then take off and play at the bowl,” Gundy said. “This will be more like a traditional week for us because we let the decision to let our players go home and spend time with their families over Christmas. We thought that was more important than the extra practice days during this time of the year with all the players have dealt with because of the virus.”

This is only the second meeting ever between OSU and Miami. In 1991, Miami beat the Cowboys 40-3. Miami has been to four bowl games in Orlando, in 2009, 2013 and 2016.
