U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is not well.

The 87-year-old justice has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment since May because her cancer has returned. She was recently in the hospital to deal with gall stones and to treat an infection.

In the past few years, she has dealt with colorectal, pancreatic and lung cancers.

For her health, she should step down from the court.

But she won’t because she is one of the liberals on the court and she knows that President Trump would replace her with a conservative justice.

Ginsburg is obviously wanting to hang on until the presidential election in hopes that Democrat Joe Biden wins and will name a fellow liberal to replace her.

This is one of the flaws of appointing judges for life. They sometimes place politics above common sense.

Ginsburg says she can function in the job and maintain a normal routine. Perhaps.

We wish her good health but the odds are not in her favor. Should she step down now, it is doubtful that Trump could replace her before the election.

Had Democrats known that Trump would beat Hillary Clinton in 2016, they would have pushed for Ginsburg to retire while Barack Obama was still in office. That strategy backfired.

Being on the Supreme Court is a tough job. It’s time for Ginsburg to take care of her health and step down.
