Kiefer’s Third Annual Medieval Faire will present Fairy Tale Out of Time on October 26-28. Admission is free.  Nearby parking is by the vehicle, and only $5 per day. 

“We occur the week before Halloween, and make a perfect alternative for entire families to dress up and play together,” a spokesman said. “Talk to a mermaid, Viking, or pirate, ride the unicorn, create a unique family photo for your Christmas cards.

“Not counting musical performers, we have over 14 opportunities to learn about the Middle Ages, including craftspeople, historical games, and re-enactors who delight in bringing history to life.”

The Stormcrow Viking encampment will feature games, kubb, and Viking jenga.  We can educate young learners on Futhark runes and Norse mythology, for the asking.  Kids can have a full hands-on experience with weapons (all blunted), shields and armor.

The Society for Creative Anachronisms will be on-site with information on their ongoing educational opportunities on medieval Arts and Sciences at the Martin East Regional Library.

The Irish Road Show brings 42 years of experience researching historical circuses and sideshows to kid-friendly talks, and for groups of adults might be convinced (if you twist his arm) into speaking about medieval forms of torture.

The Duchy of Red Storm Amtgard will be on hand to introduce visitors to the full-contact sport of live action fantasy combat.  Their members also include costumers and armorers who make all of the props used in their archery and swordplay.

Aubrey Ericsdottir of Stillroom Recipes Apothecary Shop is a Medieval historian who specializes in recreating recipes that might have been used in the Middle Ages. She discusses various plants, herbs, spices, recipes and their origins for this season’s holiday table.  She discusses medieval apothecary practices with guests.

Magick Light offers information on gemstones, meteorites, stones which are only formed around meteor strikes, crystals, and stones historically used in medicine.

The Salt Fork Craftsmen are a blacksmithing teaching group.  They demonstrate the craft and will have hands-on examples of many materials they have produced.

Holly Foley, an Usborne book dealer, is bringing a collection of books for purchase, featuring those with medieval and historical themes. Gary Bennett is a stone-carver who demonstrates the use of both his modern and period tools.

GiggleFitz Designs and Hammered Creations and many other artisans will be selling their wares.

Craig Wallander will be giving theatrical tellings of the stories of Grace O’Malley and other pirates, and magicians of the Middle Ages. The event will feature a 1/16th scale model of a 3-masted great ship newly refurbished for her maiden voyage under her new moniker, to be announced upon the Faire’s opening.

Char Shepard is a seasoned seamstress with years of experience crafting. She is coming to Kiefer Medieval Faire for one season only, with a line of mostly men’s clothing ranging from Viking T tunics to later period boatmans collared and cuffed shirts.

The King of the Barbarian’s Armor is joined by the Dirty Rotten Pirate for metal and leather costumes and accessories available for purchase.

Dee’s Wood Carving features carvings and wood-burning projects in the antique style as well as more modern artwork and gifts.

Children can purchase fairy houses to paint and decorate at the faire, to take home and invite some magic into their gardens.  We also offer old-fashioned carnival games, and opportunities to get into many Medieval competitions for young and old, alike.

Balloon Man Neil, our guest from the “future,” will be creating mermaids, unicorns, and magical wonders. Foods available at the Faire include traditional turkey legs, sausages, tapas, hand-made lemonades, cotton candy, popcorn, and more.

Two main stages will feature many varied musical guests for the weekend, from Medieval to Modern, singing and dancing, and audience participation.
