Tulsa City Councilor Phil Lakin will be speaker for the Tulsa Community College Commencement Ceremony May 12 at The Pavilion at Expo Square, 4145 E. 21st Street.

For the first time, TCC graduation will be split into two ceremonies with graduates from the Schools of Business & Information Technology, Nursing, Visual & Performing Arts and Science and Mathematics at 5 p.m., and graduates from the Schools of Liberal Arts and Communications, Engineering, Aviation, and Public Service and Allied Health at 7:30 p.m.

Lakin is a mountain climber and he has traveled the world, including reaching the summit of Washington’s Mount Rainier and The Matterhorn in Switzerland.  Lakin has hiked or climbed to the summits of all of Colorado’s 54 14,000-foot mountains.

Lakin is chair of the Tulsa Community College Foundation for 2019. He also serves as a Tulsa City Councilor District 8, a position he has held since 2011, and is CEO of Tulsa Community Foundation.

A native Tulsan and graduate of Jenks High School, Lakin earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and finance, and his Master of Business Administration, from Baylor University.
