It will be a Big 12 reunion in the Liberty Bowl on December 31 in Memphis when Oklahoma State faces former Big 12 member Missouri.
The series between Oklahoma State and Missouri dates back to 1915, with the teams meeting 52 times in the series.
The Cowboys have won three of the past four matchups, with the Tigers winning the last meeting in the Cotton Bowl to close the 2013 season.
Missouri and Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference in 2012 for the Southeastern Conference.
OSU (6-6, 3-6 in the Big 12) will make their first appearance ever in the Liberty Bowl. Kickoff is set for 2:45 p.m. in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
The last time OSU played a bowl game in Memphis was against William & Mary in the Delta Bowl on January 1, 1949.
This is the 13th year in a row that the Cowboys have gone to a bowl – the longest streak in school history and the ninth longest streak in the nation.
In an up-and-down season, OSU beat two Top 10 teams (West Virginia and Texas) and nearly beat No. 4 Oklahoma.
OSU ranks in the top 15 in the FBS in scoring offense, total offense and passing offense and were led by Biletnikoff Award finalist Tylan Wallace and first-team All-Big 12 running back Justice Hill.
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius is ranked in the top 10 nationally in passing yards, passing touchdowns, points responsible for and total offense.
Oklahoma State led the Big 12 and ranked seventh nationally in sacks.
It also ranked second in the league and 12th in the nation in tackles for loss. Defensive end Jordan Brailford was a first-team All-Big 12 player who led the league in sacks.
Missouri (8-4 overall; 4-4 SEC) was No. 23 in the final set of College Football Playoff rankings and on a four-game win streak to close the regular season.
The Tigers finished the year tied for fourth place in the SEC East.
Missouri beat No. 10 Florida on November 3 and lost two games – against No. 14 Kentucky and South Carolina – on the last play of the game.
Missouri coach Barry Odom was defensive coordinator at the University of Memphis for three seasons (2012-14).
Odom’s nephew Baron Odom is a redshirt freshman on the Cowboys. Baron Odom’s father, Brad, is the older brother of MU’s coach and Brian Odom, one of the Tigers’ linebacker coaches.
OSU coach Mike Gundy is aware of Odom but they haven’t met.
“He’s done a lot of things and worked his way up,” Gundy said. “I’ve heard great things about him. He’s not gonna get to the point he is as the head coach at Missouri without doing things the right way.
“They’ve done very well, and it’s obvious in their season.”
Odom has followed Oklahoma State.
“They’re explosive on offense,” Odom said of OSU. “(Gundy’s) done it at a high level for a long time. He’ll have them ready to go play.”
Barry Odom’s brother, Brian, coaches outside linebackers for Missouri.
Former Oklahoma players Joe Jon Finley (tight ends), Brad Davis (offensive line) and Garrick McGee (offensive analyst) are also on the staff.
