Grassroots groups throughout Oklahoma will rally February 11-13 in Oklahoma City to support the abolishment of abortion in the state and support Senate Bill 13.

Sen. Joseph Silk, R-Broken Bow, spoke at a rally Saturday in Edmond and was joined by leaders of the abolishment movement.

Senate Bill prohibits the use of abortion under any circumstance and provides unborn children with equal protection under the laws of Oklahoma. It puts abortion in the same category as homicide, manslaughter, justifiable homicide and excusable homicide. It eliminates exemptions previously granted that permit abortion.

And Senate Bill 13, the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act, would overturn any conflicting federal statutes, regulations, executive orders or court decisions. It would consider any attempt or ruling (presumably by the Oklahoma Supreme Court) to overturn this law to be unconstitutional and void.

The movement, “Free the States,” gained steam during the gubernatorial campaign of former State Rep. Dan Fisher. Fisher talked about the importance of abolishing abortion and regaining state sovereignty. The group’s website is www.freethestates.org.

The group believes that abortion should be abolished, not regulated. Under our constitutional system, the states – not the federal government – are sovereign. People in the states and state judges are the key to stop the “compromise with the culture of death.”

According to a press release by Free The States, “Senator Joseph Silk is the only elected official in Oklahoma seeking to establish equal justice and protection for all human beings under the law. He is the only elected official in Oklahoma trying to uphold the principles of the Declaration of Independence. We are the only lobbying organization getting behind his bill and seeking to insure that it makes it to Governor Stitt’s desk to be signed.”
