Here is some news and notes from the local sports scene:

TULSA OILERS

Tulsa Oilers played a pair of games this past weekend at the BOK Center, defeating the Allen Americans 4-1 on Friday night for a fourth straight win. The goal scorers for Tulsa were Coulson Pitre, Ryan Lautenbach, Duggie Lagrone, and Josh Nelson, who scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season with an empty-net goal late in the game.

The two teams squared off again Sunday afternoon and this time, the Oilers got past Allen in overtime, 4-3, to extend their winning streak to five games.

Brayden Watts scored all three goals for Allen, including the tying goal midway through the third period to force overtime. Adam McMaster scored the game wining goal in overtime for Tulsa.

The Oilers will be on the road at Allen this Saturday evening but return home to face Utah on Nov. 21 and 22 at 7:05 p.m. at the BOK Center.

BEDLAM BACK TO TULSA

It was announced last week that after a three-year absence, Bedlam Baseball will return to ONEOK Field. The Tulsa Drillers are set to host the collegiate baseball rivalry between the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys on April 14 at 7:00 p.m.

“We are so excited to again be able to host the Sooners and Cowboys in downtown Tulsa,” said Drillers President Mike Melega in a press release.  “They are two outstanding programs, and the Bedlam matchup remains one of the best rivalries in all collegiate baseball.  We expect a great game in front of a great crowd on April 14.”

OU and OSU played annually in Tulsa from 1991 through 2016, most times drawing capacity crowds to Drillers Stadium and ONEOK Field. The largest crowd ever for an event at ONEOK Field (9,431) was for the OU vs. OSU game in 2011.

Since 1991, the two teams have met a total of 34 times in Tulsa with OSU holding a slight 19-15 advantage in the games.

ORU WOMEN’S SOCCER

The ORU women’s soccer team won the Summit League regular season title and hosted the semifinals and championship match at the Case Soccer Complex last weekend.

ORU came from behind to beat Kansas City, 2-1, in the semifinal match on Thursday, while South Dakota State won their semifinal matchup with Denver, 1-0.

For the second consecutive year, the Golden Eagles and Jackrabbits met in the championship match, and South Dakota State won their third straight title by shutting out ORU, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

TU VOLLEYBALL DOMINATING

Going slightly unnoticed is the great season the University of Tulsa volleyball team is having. Sure, the media doesn’t often cover women’s college volleyball, but in general, the sport has grown at all levels over the past decade, and more people are taking notice. Attendance has improved at both TU and ORU in recent years, and there are now dozens of competitive volleyball clubs in the area.

On Sunday afternoon, Tulsa defeated East Carolina (11-14, 3-11 American) in straight sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, hitting the 20-win mark for the first time since 2014. The Golden Hurricane record is now 20-6 overall, 10-4 in American Conference play. That puts Tulsa in a third-place tie with North Texas in the conference standings, behind Rice (13-1) and South Florida (11-3).

Tulsa will be home again on Sunday, Nov. 16, to host Tulane at 1:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
