OKLAHOMA CITY – For nearly 40 years the Oklahoma Army National Guard has benefited from the leadership of Maj. Gen. Glen E. Moore. From the rank of second lieutenant all the way to major general, Moore has always put his service to the National Guard before anything else.  For this selfless dedication to state and nation, Moore was inducted into the Oklahoma Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame on September 8, prior to the graduation of OCS Class 64.  The induction and OCS graduation were at the Oklahoma National Guard’s Regional Training Institute, 6500 N Kelley Ave, in Oklahoma City.

Moore enlisted as a private into Detachment 1, Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 160th Field Artillery Regiment, headquartered in Tulsa on March 3, 1980.  He was then selected for Officer Candidate School (OCS) and attended OCS Class 27.  He was commissioned on June 27, 1982, and assigned to Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 160th Field Artillery Regiment, Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the fire support team chief.

Over a 37 year career, Moore provided exceptionally meritorious service to the Oklahoma National Guard in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating as the Deputy Commanding General, United States Army National Guard, Headquarters, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Throughout his career, Moore was a visionary and transformative leader. His work in the field artillery, support for strategic training and leader development, and his background as a civilian police officer contributed significantly to national security and made him an indispensable military leader.

Moore commanded at the battery, battalion, and brigade levels. His commands included Battery A, 1st Battalion, 189th Field Artillery Regiment, located in Blackwell, Oklahoma; the 1st Battalion, 171st Field Artillery Regiment, in Altus, Oklahoma; and the 45th Field Artillery Brigade during its deployment to Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

For most of his military career, Moore was a “traditional” guardsman excelling in his military career as he did in his civilian career as a police officer with the City of Tulsa. He joined the Tulsa Police Department in January 1987 and was promoted to sergeant in July 2005.  During his more than 30 years of service with the Tulsa Police Department, he served on their Special Operations Team and received several Chief’s Unit Awards and letters of commendation.
