Tulsa Public Schools has a new policy that prohibits medical marijuana on campus.
Oklahoma voters approved the use of medical marijuana in 2018 but it possession is still against federal law. You must have a license to legally use marijuana in the state. Federal law prohibits the use of marijuana in the workplace. The new district policy puts limits on the use of cannabidiol (CBC).
The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University have similar bans on marijuana on campus, citing the possible loss of federal funding if it was allowed.
Tulsa Public Schools is following the example of Union, Jenks and Broken Arrow school districts in banning medical marijuana on school grounds.
As to CBD, it can be used on TPS grounds if the concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is below three-tenths of 1 percent. THC is the intoxicating agent in marijuana.
Non-students can use CBD on school grounds if they can prove it has no THC or if they have a state medical marijuana license and use CBD with less than 0.3 percent THC.
Also, if someone may use it if they have been diagnosed by the licensed Oklahoma doctor for certain forms of epilepsy; Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome; spasticity (due to paraplegia or multiple sclerosis); intractable vomiting or nausea; or for appetite stimulation due to chronic wasting disease. The policy prohibits students from using CBD but it has to be administered by a parent or legal guardian.
