According to a report in the Springfield News Leader, Missouri State Athletics Director Kyle Moats said his athletics department is budgeting as if it won’t play its football game at Oklahoma on Sept. 5.

Moats said he hopes to play the game but he is planning as if he won’t bet the $600,000 guaranteed payment from OU for the game.

The game could be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic but no decision has been made.

“We hope to play that game,” Moats said.

Moats said the department is already having to budget for a $650,000 shortfall due to the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. The university will have to plan for a decrease in other revenue sources including ticket revenue, donations, suite sales, licensing and concessions.  Scheduling, travel size limits, and how teams get to games are operations that are going to be reduced “significantly,” according to Moats.
