Tulsa had its first full scrimmage of preseason camp with referees on Saturday afternoon at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

“I was really pleased with the overall performance today. There was good give-and-take and a lot of good situational things that we’ll be able to learn from,” said Tulsa coach Philip Montgomery.

“I’m pleased that we walked of the field pretty healthy and we got in a lot of good work today.

“I was pleased with the effort, the attitude and the communication on the field. With coaches off the field, things change a lot and you have to rely on your veterans to continue that standard and mode of communication that has to happen on the field. I thought our young guys really stepped up in that area as well.”

The offense scored three touchdowns on runs by Jordan Ford and Tahj Gary and a six-yard reception by Nick Rempert from Braylon Braxton. Zack Long also kicked field goals of 28 and 30 yards and Tyler Tipton added a 20-yarder.

“I’ll have to wait to watch the tape to really evaluate how completely it came out, but walking off the field today I feel good about the trajectory we’re on offensively, especially the skill guys,” said Montgomery.

“I thought the receivers were operating at a high level. They were on the same page with the quarterbacks. They were in and out of breaks and the quarterbacks eyes were in the right spots.

“We were taking advantage of what we saw defensively. The running backs ran really hard and the offensive line opened up some nice holes and the backs were patient enough to wait and then hit them.”

“From an offensive standpoint I thought our line played well. We’ll see how well after we watch the tape, but overall I liked the consistency we played with on offense,” Montgomery added.
