The relentless march to legalize the recreational use of marijuana marches on. Pot advocates keep filing initiative petitions.

Political gadfly Paul Tay of Tulsa filed State Question 808, which would guarantee the right of anyone to use cannabis without restraint.

State Question 806 would provide more legal protection for businesses that sell pot and other products. It has drawn support from out-of-state interests.

Conservative lawmakers, stunned by passage of the medical marijuana, are considered pre-emptive statutes to stop or at least delay the inevitable legalization of pot. State voters thought they were approving the strictly medical use of marijuana but that is a joke.

Marijuana dispensaries are literally popping up on every street corner in Tulsa. On a national level, there are constant efforts to repeal federal laws against possession of marijuana.

Marijuana is a health problem. It has very limited medical usefulness. It is an addictive drug that is a gateway drug to worse drugs. Marijuana use kills initiative. It changes personalities. It is damaging to the brain function of children and young adults.

Why is Oklahoma racing to embrace this dangerous substance? It’s time for the Republican leadership in the Legislature to put a stop to this pot stampede. We will see if they are up to the task.
