City officials, including Fire Chief Michael Baker held a groundbreaking  this month for Fire Station 33, to be constructed at 4109 S. 134th East Avenue.

Construction of this station supports the Tulsa Fire Department’s Insurance Services Offices Rating of Number 1 and reflects ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and decrease insurance rates. Station 33 is strategically located to help balance the load that Station 27 at 11707 E. 31st St. has been carrying. More fire trucks will be available in this area, which will help to shorten response times.

This new four-bay fire station has been designed to keep construction costs low and effectively meet the needs of the Tulsa Fire Department. Improvements include a more durable roof and a larger apparatus bay to accommodate equipment maintenance and allow for storage of reserve fire apparatus or expanding fire crews over time.

Construction of this $5.3 million fire station is scheduled to begin in September 2020, with completion estimated for December 2021. Funding for design and construction has come from the 2006 Third Penny Sales Tax. The Public Safety Sales Tax, which was approved in 2016 with the Vision Tulsa sales tax, has enabled Tulsa to hire more firefighters to fully staff this new fire station.
