Tulsa Transit on September 23 will make a few changes in policy.

1. Drivers will only stop at designated bus stops and won’t stop when they are flagged down by riders. Tulsa is not a flag stop system anymore. This was changed to help buses stay on schedule and for safety reasons.

2. Drivers will only let passengers off at designated areas, including bus stops, benches, shelters, stations and sub-hubs.

3. Riders should have their fare ready before they board the bus. Once everyone is boarded, drivers will close the door and ask passengers to grab a handrail. Then the bus will leave – even if all the passengers haven’t yet paid their fares. If a rider is unsteady on his or her feet, they should alert the driver and he or she will let them sit before leaving.

4. The bus will kneel now by request only. Riders should alert the driver so they may kneel the bus for them to board. The kneeling feature is an electrically controlled air-operated system that reduces the ground-to-first-step height, allowing the passengers to get on and off the bus more easily. It removes air from the front axle air springs to lower the front end of the vehicle.
