In response to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, Tulsa Public Schools will open the school year without students in the classroom but will rely on them learning electronically at home.

School begins on Monday, August 31, and will continue without students in classrooms for at least nine weeks (around the end of October). Officials are leaving the door open for an earlier return. The school year is scheduled to end June 8.

Officials plan on having a “full day of school” using normal curriculum in remote settings.

Grades, which were stopped in the spring due to the pandemic, will resume and attendance will be taken each day.

Students and their families can pick up free meals at designated sites throughout Tulsa. Tulsa Public Schools will not provide any childcare.

Owasso Public Schools has moved the start date from August 13 to August 24 and the district will not have students in classrooms but teach electronically at their homes.

Like TPS, Owasso will give assignments to homebound students and grades will be given based on academic progress. Teachers will be in their classrooms and will use “Google Classroom” to teach.
