Officials cite health concerns over Tulsa State Fair

The annual Tulsa State Fair, one of the biggest events in the city, has been canceled by the Tulsa County Public Facilities Authority.

The authority voted 5-0 to cancel the fair, which had been scheduled for October 1-11, because of concerns about spreading the Chinese coronavirus.

The fair draws more than a million visitors every year.

The board did decide to keep one feature of the fair – the Junior Livestock Show.

This cancelation of the Tulsa State Fair follows the cancelation six weeks ago of the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City, which had been scheduled for September 17-27. Also, the Texas State Fair in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl has been canceled. The annual football game between Oklahoma and Texas is still scheduled to be played at the Cotton Bowl on October 10.

The Tulsa State Fair is the largest money maker for the fairgrounds. The fair accounts for 40% of the fairgrounds’ approximately $25 million in annual revenue.

The Wanenmacher Tulsa Arms Show, the world’s largest gun show, is still scheduled for November 14-15 at Expo Square.
