Randy Wayne Tankersley, devoted husband, loving dad, and proud granddad, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the age of 62.
He was born on Thursday, June 23, 1960, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Edward and Mary Julien Tankersley. Randy grew up in Sapulpa where he received his elementary education and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1978.
When Randy was 13, his dad, Edward Lee took him outside, behind their barn, and shared with Randy the plan of salvation and he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. He continued going to church with his family. Randy attended Falls Creek where his faith continued to grow in his faith, developing a deep love for Falls Creek. Randy’s Dad passed away in 1978.
After graduation, he attended Oklahoma Baptist University for a couple of years, realizing that he needed to come home and help his mom.
Randy was a member of First Baptist Church of Sapulpa. Later he moved to Tulsa, began working for Tulsa County Election Board and joined Gracemont Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was very active in the singles department.
He married the love of his life, Katie Glass, on Saturday, November 21, 1987, at Gracemont Baptist Church in Tulsa Randy was ordained as a Deacon in 1988. They later moved to Broken Arrow and became members of First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow in 1999.
At the time of Randy’s death, he served as the Registration Manger in the Land Records department for Tulsa County Election Board for 35 years.
Randy enjoyed collecting many different things, was an avid watcher of Western movies, antiquing and watching his OU Sooners play football.
Randy was an active in the leadership of Celebrate Recovery program at First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.
He will be remembered by his friends and family as a man of character, always joyful, very generous, sometime very opinionated, always devoted, faithful and loving. He was a true overcomer. Randy will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Tankersley and his mother and father -in-law, Eli and Betty Glass. Randy is lovingly survived by his wife of 34 years, Katie of the home, their children, Nathan and his wife Jacqualyn of Yarmouth, Iowa; Natalie Bell and her husband Gerald of Tulsa; and Philip Tankersley and his wife Evyn of Broken Arrow; his grandson, Trysten Tankersley. He is also survived by his siblings, Rachel Butler and her husband Wes of Sapulpa and Sandy Tankersley of Claremore; his uncle Max Tankersley and his wife Jutta of Tulsa; sisters-in-law, Vickie Addison and her husband Ricky of Louisiana and Kim Thompson of Jenks; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and a lifetime of friends.
Services were held on Wednesday, July 13, at First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.
