In the final game of their IFL regular season schedule, the Tulsa Oilers got past the Quad City Steamwheelers, 49-48, Saturday night in Moline, Illinois.

With the win, the Oilers improved their record to 10-6 and finished the regular season in third place in the Eastern Conference. Tulsa will open the playoffs on Sunday at No. 2 Green Bay.

Quad City jumped out to a quick start, scoring on their first play of the game, as quarterback Daquan Neal connected with DeQuan Dudley on a touchdown pass. A deuce from kicker Kyle Kaplan put Quad City ahead, 9-0.

The Oilers responded on their opening drive with a pass from Sam Castronova to Isiah Scott falling into the end zone.

Quad City scored on a second consecutive drive and hit another deuce to go up 18-7 at the end the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Castronova found JuJu Augustine along the goal line for a touchdown pass to bring the Oilers within four points of the Steamwheelers, 18-14.

Following another touchdown by Q.C., Tulsa’s Castronova carried the ball into the end zone from one yard out to keep the Oilers close, 25-20.

Late in the first half, Castronova scored on another quarterback keeper from the three-yard line giving the Oilers their first lead of the game, 27-25.

Kaplan kicked a field goal in the final seconds of the second quarter to give Quad City a slim 28-27 lead at halftime.

The Oilers came out strong in the second half, as Castronova completed a touchdown pass to Max Novak in the back of the end zone, putting Tulsa ahead, 34-28.

The Steamwheelers scored 12 unanswered points before Tulsa’s Castronova connected with Novak again, to tie the game at 40-40.

The Steamwheelers then scored a touchdown, missed the extra point, but hit a deuce to take a 48-40 lead.

Scott caught his second touchdown pass of the night, a 45-yard pass play on the first play of the Oilers’ next drive to bring Tulsa within two points, 48-46. Before the end of the fourth quarter, Jonah Edwards kicked a 26-yard field goal to give the Oilers the lead, 49-48.

Quad City’s Kaplan missed a field goal as time was running out.

Tulsa is making its first ever appearance in the IFL playoffs and will face the Blizzard in Green Bay, on Sunday, August 3, at 3:05 p.m. Central.
