The coronavirus is spreading but it is less lethal.

In Oklahoma as of June 29, there were 13,172 cases of coronavirus out of a total of 313,021 tests. The death toll is 384 with 385 patients in the hospital, according the Oklahoma Department of Health.

During the week of June 19-26, there were 2,594 confirmed cases with nine deaths. During that period in Oklahoma, 1,436 people recovered.  Almost all of the deaths – 96% – were people age 50 or older. The average age of those who died was 75. Yet only 36% of the confirmed cases were over 50. The average age for the cases is 43.

The death rate in Oklahoma has steadily declined even though Gov. Kevin Stitt started Phase Three to re-open the state.

And the rate of hospitalization has declined from 30% on April 1 to 12% on June 24. 80% of those who have died had at least one chronic condition, including heart disease, diabetes, renal failure, lung failure or liver failure.

Recovery from the Chinese coronavirus in Oklahoma skyrocketed in June as testing rose. More than 300 patients recovered as reported on June 23 compared to less than 25 on May 30.

In Tulsa, there have been 2,262 confirmed cases with 52 deaths with 66 deaths in Tulsa County. The number of recovered patients is 1,471.
