Oklahoma used an 18-0 run early in the second half to take the lead and cruise to a 94-78 victory over Georgia on Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center, in Norman. It was a badly needed conference win for the Sooners, and their second consecutive conference victory.
With the win, OU improved to 13-12 overall, 3-9 SEC, while Georgia is now 17-8, 5-7 SEC. OU’s 94 points and 58.9% field goal percentage were its best marks in SEC play this season. The Bulldogs shot 52% for the game.
Tae Davis led the Sooners with 19 points including six 3-pointers. Kuol Atak and Nijel Pack each added 18 points for OU. The Sooners got 13 points from Dayton Forsythe, off the bench.
Georgia was led by Blue Cain with 20 points and Marcus Millender with 16.
The Bulldogs took an early 7-1 lead, but the Sooners shooting quickly responded and held a 28-25 lead with 8:50 left in the first half. Georgia went on an 18-10 run to go ahead 43-38, but Atak hit his fourth three-pointer of the half right before the halftime buzzer to move the Sooners within two points, 43-41.
Georgia opened the second half on a 6-1 run, but OU buckled down on defense and went on an 18-0 run over a span of 4:30 to move ahead, 60-49, with 13:37 remaining in the game.
OU maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way thanks to Davis, who scored 15 of his 19 points in the final 12:56 of the second half.
OU tied a season high with 14 three-pointers on 25 attempts, good for a 56% mark. The Sooners also committed only seven turnovers on the day, while Georgia committed 10.
OU will host Texas A&M on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
