Oklahoma State cruised to a series sweep of Central Florida, beating the Knights in three straight at O’Brate Stadium, in Stillwater.
The Cowboys shut out UCF 12-0 in Friday night’s series opener.
Harrison Bodendorf pitched very well in his 12th start of the season and picked up the win with eight innings of shutout ball. The southpaw struck out seven while allowing just four hits and one walk to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Colin Brueggemann and Brock Thompson led the Cowboy offense, as both had two home runs and combined for six RBI in the game. The Cowboys scored in each of the first five innings to take control of the game early.
Saturday’s game proved to be a bit closer, as Oklahoma State scored twice in the seventh inning to secure a series win with a 3-1 victory over UCF.
Mario Pesca got the start on the mound for the Cowboys, earning the win after pitching 7 1/3 innings and allowing only one run. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk, as he improved to 4-2 on the season. Gabe Davis recorded his first save of the season, recording the final four outs of the game.
Oklahoma State wrapped up the Big 12 series sweep against UCF with a 10-6 win Sunday afternoon. The win was OSU’s second Big 12 series sweep of the season as the Cowboys improved to 22-21 overall and 10-11 in conference play. UCF fell to 24-23 and 6-18 in the Big 12.
The offensive effort was led by the trio of Brueggemann, Jayson Jones and Thompson. Each player homered and combined to drive in nine of the 10 Cowboy runs.
Sean Youngerman made his fourth start of the season for the Cowboys, pitching five innings and striking out six while allowing only two runs, one earned. The right-hander earned the win, moving him to 3-1 and bringing down his season ERA to a paltry 1.99.
Matthew Brown recorded the final two outs of the game, working out of a bases-loaded jam, to pick up the first save of his collegiate career.
OSU will begin a three-game series at Baylor on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Central.
